THE ASIAN CRICKET COUNCIL ARCHIVE

The Asian Cricket Council was formed as the Asian Cricket Conference in 1983 to promote and develop the game of cricket within Asia. It is the regional administrative body and is sub-ordinate to the International Cricket Council. The Conference became the Asian Cricket Council in 1995. The Asian Cricket Council Trophy is organised for non-test nations in Asia, as a qualification tournament for the Asia Cup, and teams such as Hong Kong, Malaysia, Kuwait and Nepal all take part. The footage from this event is captured in the Asian Cricket Council Archive.

INTRODUCTION

The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) Trophy, conceived in 1996, is the One Day International qualification tournament for the Asia Cup. There are 22 members of the ACC and they compete against each other in order to try and gain qualification for the Asia Cup. The ACC Trophy is a 50-overs per side tournament played according to all normal ICC rules and regulations, and whilst it is used for entry into the Asia Cup, it also paves the way for Asian non-Test nations to attempt qualification for the Cricket World Cup. The tournament format is in a four group stage, with the top two teams from each group progressing into a knock-out stage.

The teams which are eligible to participate for the ACC Trophy include Hong Kong, Kuwait, Malaysia, Nepal, Singapore, Thailand, and United Arab Emirates, Afghanistan, Bahrain, Bhutan, Brunei, China, Iran, Maldives, Myanmar, Oman, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia.

The archive collection includes matches footage from this exciting and intensive contest of Asian cricket, dating from 1995 to 2000.
