INTRODUCTION

The Royal Horticultural Society is a charity and exists to promote gardening and horticulture in Britain and Europe. This is done through a series of flower shows and through many model gardens that are open to the public. The society celebrated its bicentenary in 2004.

The Hampton Court Palace Flower show is the world’s largest and most vibrant annual flower show. Taking place in July every year, it welcomes an explosion of colour and fragrance in a relaxed and friendly environment, with more than 25 stunning gardens and breathtaking floral marquees each year. The Chelsea Flower Show takes place annually in May and is a sophisticated and imaginative exhibition of the very best in gardening innovation. Garden designers use Chelsea as an opportunity to showcase their skills and fantasies, unrestricted by the constraints which impact upon everyday gardeners.

The Royal Horticultural Society Archive is a collection of highlights programmes from 1997 to present day, covering these two stunning annual events.
