THE RYDER CUP ARCHIVE

The Ryder Cup began in 1927 as a match between the best golfers in the USA and Great Britain & Ireland. Since the inception of players from Continental Europe to the Great Britain and Ireland Team in 1979 to form a European Team, the event is now recognised as one of the greatest occasions in the sports calendar. The best golfers from Europe and the USA compete against each other over 3 days in a uniquely enticing Match Play format. All the excitement of this amazing tournament has been captured in The Ryder Cup Archive.

INTRODUCTION

The Ryder Cup is contested every two years and involves a variety of matches being played by members of the two twelve-man teams. Currently, the matches consist of eight foursomes’ matches, eight fourball matches and twelve singles matches.

The Ryder Cup is jointly administered by The PGA of America and The PGA European Tour. The event was founded on prestige rather than prize money, and many of the world’s greatest golfers have relished the opportunity to compete in the event. Golfing legends such as Walter Hagen, Gene Sarazen, Sam Snead, Lee Trevino, Jack Nicklaus, Tony Jacklin, Severiano Ballesteros, Nick Faldo, Ian Woosnam, Colin Montgomerie, Darren Clarke, Tiger Woods and Sergio Garcia are just some of the players who have featured over the years.

The Ryder Cup has staged some of the most dramatic and tense finishes ever seen in golfing competition, and these thrilling and exciting moments are brought together in The Ryder Cup Archive.
