INTRODUCTION

The USGA, founded in 1894, was established from a dispute over a conflict of a national amateur champion. Today, the USGA conducts 13 national championships including the U.S. Open, U.S. Women’s Open, U.S. Senior Open and U.S. Amateur. The USGA, in conjunction with the R&A, also conducts two international amateur team competitions known as the Walker Cup and the Curtis Cup.

The Walker Cup and the Curtis Cup are matches contested bi-annually between two teams comprising either the leading male or female amateur golfers of the United States and Great Britain & Ireland.

The USGA Archive has acquired an extensive collection of black & white and colour material dating back to the 1920’s. Players featured include some of golf's all time greats such as Bob Jones, Ben Hogan, Gary Player, Arnold Palmer, Lee Trevino, Jack Nicklaus, Tom Watson, Payne Stewart, Nick Faldo, Severiano Ballesteros, Ernie Els, Michael Campbell, Retief Goosen, Tiger Woods, Paula Creamer, Annika Sorenstam, Michelle Wie, plus many more.
