	THE WORLD INVITATIONAL TENNIS CLASSIC ARCHIVE
	Held between 1973 and 1977, The World Invitational Tennis Classic (WITC) was a unique event where both men and women competed in the same competition. The matches were played in the standard singles and doubles disciplines whereby, apart from mixed doubles, men only played men and women only played women in a round-robin format. The World Invitational Tennis Classic Archive is a unique collection of matches from this event, featuring some of the best stars of the tennis world in the 1970s.

INTRODUCTION

The WITC was structured so that each player gained points by winning matches. The player with the most points at the end of the tournament was crowned the overall winner.

Played in South Carolina, USA between 1973 and 1977, the WITC featured the best players from the era; including Billie Jean King, Chris Evert, Martina Navratilova, Sue Barker, Virginia Wade, Evonne Goolagong, Rod Laver, Ilie Nastase, Arthur Ashe, Bjorn Borg and John Newcombe.

During the course of this event some nail-biting clashes took place and the World Invitational Tennis Classic Archive features more than 60 hours of coverage.

PROGRAMMING

The WITC Archive is an amazing collection from 1974 to 1978, consisting of over 60 hours of professionally restored programmes which have been transferred to Digital Beta tape.

Matches include a spectacular win by Bjorn Borg against Arthur Ashe in the 1977 Men’s Singles Final. Commentary is provided by Chris Schenkel and Pancho Gonzalez.
