INTRODUCTION
The first Professional Championships was held in 1973 in Landover, Maryland. Skaters competed in three disciplines: Men's Singles, Ladies' Singles, and Pair Skating. The Championships have included a long history of different formats.
In 1980 two-team competition replaced individual competition whereas in 1983 individual competition once again resumed and ice dancing was introduced. By 1986 the decision was made to discontinue the team competition and competitors performed individual routines. The last Professional Championships was held in 2000.
The event attracts some of the greatest names in skating such as Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean, Dorothy Hamill, Steven Cousins, Yuko Sato, Alexie Urmanov, Kristi Yamaguchi, Kurt Browning, and many others, all of which are included in The Skaters Championships Archive.
