INTRODUCTION

The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) was created as a measure to promote goodwill between Asian countries; and the Asia Cup was therefore introduced by the ACC in 1984 with this principle in mind. Originally scheduled to be held every two years the first event was held in 1984 in Sharjah, UAE where the council's offices were originally based. It was subsequently held in 1986, 1988, 1990, 1995, 1997, 2000 and 2004. The ACC have announced that the tournament will be held biannually from 2008 onwards.

The level of competition in the Asia Cup has always been very intense; however, India has lifted the trophy four times - the most amongst the competing Asian countries.

The Asia Cup Archive features a series of highly competitive matches between Pakistan, Sri Lanka, India and Bangladesh from 1995, 1997 and 2000.
