INTRODUCTION

The Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) is the governing body of Olympic sports in Asia. The idea for The OCA was approved during The Asian Games Federation (AGF) Council Meeting held on November 26th, 1981. One year later The OCA was officially founded on December 5, 1982 in New Delhi during The IX Asian Games, which were the last games under the ‘AGF’ umbrella. The OCA has 45 member countries under the leadership of current President Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah.

Today, all sport in Asia is governed by The OCA, whose mandate is to supervise and encourage sport at the highest levels. It presides over a vast geographic area which includes the Middle East, Asia and countries from the former Soviet Union.

At The 15th Asian Games in Doha (2006) there were over 100 different sports including traditional Asian sports, Olympic sports and non-Olympic sports such as tenpin bowling, chess, aerobics, billiards and many more.

The OCA Archive is the largest collection featuring the top international Asian athletes and includes exciting performances from many of the world’s top athletes including the current Men’s 110 metre hurdle world record holder Liu Xiang and NBA star Yao Ming.
