| JOYOUS JUNE! Soccer: Premier League In one of the most exciting finales in Premier League history Manchester United were crowned champions of England for the 17th time, despite their worst start to a campaign since 1992!
With the top two sides, Manchester United and Chelsea, both tied on 84 points, the title was decided on the final day for only the 4th time since the Premier League began. A disappointing 1-1 home draw for Chelsea against Bolton and a solid 2-0 away win for Manchester United against Wigan gave United the points they needed to top the table. Ryan Giggs, who equalled Sir Bobby Charlton’s Manchester United appearance record of 758 games, marked this momentous occasion by scoring their second goal late on.
The relegation battle was just as fiercely contested. Despite Birmingham City and Reading enjoying convincing final day wins, it was not enough to avoid relegation to The Championship along with Derby County. Fulham were also facing potential relegation, but a late Danny Murphy goal secured their Premier League status for at least another year. West Bromwich Albion, Stoke City and Championship Play-Off winners Hull City, will take their place in next season’s Premier League.

| | Rugby League: Super League Millennium Magic The 3rd and 4th May 2008 saw all 12 Super League teams competing at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff, Wales. Each team played one regular season match, with three contests really capturing the imagination; St Helens Saints vs. Wigan Warriors, Bradford Bulls vs. Leeds Rhinos and the intra-city derby between Hull FC and Hull KR.
Defending champions Leeds Rhinos vs. Bradford Bulls proved an enthralling encounter. Despite the Rhinos trailing 10-6 at half time, they turned the game around to win 40-26. Leeds began their domination of the second half scoring two outstanding tries in quick succession, within six minutes after the restart. Even a controversial try awarded to the Bulls late in the game did not faze the Rhinos and with 10 minutes to go, a 50 metre run by Ryan Hall gave Leeds the try they needed to secure the win. Leeds currently top the Super League by 6 points with 7 matches remaining.
