As Jonny Wilkinson returns to the game and world cup qualifiers begin, IMG Media Archive are receiving a large number of requests for Rugby World Cup matches and Rugby World Cup archive footage.
Founded in 1886, the International Rugby Board (IRB) is the world governing and law-making body for the sport of rugby union, and previously for rugby football. The Rugby World Cup Archive includes international competitions as well as the complete collection of the prestigious Rugby World Cup.
The inaugural Rugby World Cup (RWC) took place in 1987 with the hosts New Zealand winning The Webb Ellis Trophy. The RWC is held every four years and guarantees top class, often nail biting and dramatic rugby matches. Some of the game’s greatest stars have taken part in The RWC over the years; including Jonah Lomu, Marc Ellis, Sean Fitzpatrick, David Campese, John Eales, George Gregan, Jonny Wilkinson, Jannie de Beer, Serge Blanco, Francois Pienaar, Gavin Hastings, Rob Andrew, Jeremy Guscott, Keith Wood, Rupeni Caucaunibuca and Neil Jenkins.
Rugby World Cup Sevens footage is also available including long form coverage and tournament highlights from all three days from tournaments held in 1987, 1991, 1995, 1999, 2003. Over the past 15 years rugby sevens has become an established and important aspect of the international rugby scene, boosted by the high profile of the Rugby World Cup Sevens (The Melrose Cup) every four years.
