NEWS
The Quiksilver Pro surfing event at Hossenger, France is in full flow, with the astonishing news that eleven out of the thirteen top-rated surfers lost their first round heats!
The only two to advance were Taj Burrow from Australia and American C.J. Hobgood, however, most of the others had to rely on the second chance round to advance in the competition. Unfortunately for reigning ASP World Champion and world No. 5 Mick Fanning, a 33rd place was all he could muster meaning another world title is now virtually impossible.
Meanwhile 21-year-olds Jeremy Flores and Adriano de Souza are both through to the third round after convincing wins. Having both qualified for the ASP World Tour as World Qualifying Series No. 1 surfers, they are hoping to improve their world rankings with good results in France, De Souza looking to break into the top five for the first time in his career.
All eyes are now on Kelly Slater who is looking to secure his ninth ASP World Title in France. However the 36-year-old will have to survive competition from Taj Burrow and Bede Durbridge who are also still in contention for the coveted title.
