Wimbledon Historic Material

The Wimbledon Archive holds an impressive collection of professionally restored historic material. Footage dating back to 1900 has been painstakingly restored to former glories in order to preserve the history and heritage of the world?s most prestigious tennis tournament.

The collection of restored footage includes:

Black & white Newsreel vignettes
, shot by British Movietone, British Pathe and Reuters, dating from 1900 to 1980, including unique footage of the Doherty Brothers & great Champions such as Fred Perry, Rene Lacoste, Suzanne Lenglen, Helen Wills Moody, Lew Hoad and Althea Gibson.

Duration:
Over 16 hours of footage.

Official Films
, which feature the best action from each year’s play, are available in High and Standard Definition from the following years:
1968, 1969, 1970, 1976, 1977, 1978, 1985


Players featured include: Rod Laver, Billie Jean King, John Newcombe, Margaret Court, Bjorn Borg, Chris Evert, Virginia Wade, Martina Navratilova and Boris Becker.

Duration:
26 to 52 minutes per Official Film.

1950s colour footage, these remarkable films feature interviews, behind the scenes footage and exciting match action from the following Finals:

Ashley Cooper v Neale Fraser – 1958 Gentlemen’s Singles Final
Maureen Connolly v Louise Brough – 1954 Ladies’ Singles Final
Jaroslav Drobny v Ken Rosewall - 1954 Gentlemen’s Singles Final
